On-Demand Design / Rehabilitation Services for 860 Bridges in Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton Counties, PA
Client: PennDOT, Engineering District 5-0
Location: Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton Counties, PA
Type/Size: On-Demand Design / Rehabilitation Services
Services: Bridge Inspection
At the request of PennDOT District 5-0, PCS has provided on-demand design/rehabilitation services to address deficiencies identified during Routine Inspections throughout all three cycles of Agreement E02416. In each case, implementation of the details designed by PCS mitigated high priority maintenance items, weight restrictions, and/or temporary shoring.
A Routine Inspection of the bridge carrying SR 0033 over SR 0248, a three span simply supported welded plate girder and rolled I-beam structure, revealed section losses at the ends of several of the rolled steel I-beams in the approach spans. PCS assisted the District with the design and detailing of temporary shoring to avoid implementing a weight restriction and also designed and detailed the permanent steel repairs, which were installed by PennDOT County Maintenance Forces. In order to expedite the repair processes, PCS assisted the District with preparation of shop drawings and bills of materials. A State Project Number and S-Number were assigned.
