Replacement of SR 1016, Section BBR, over Delaware Canal
Client: PennDOT, Engineering District 6-0
Location: Riegelsville Borough, Bucks County, PA
Type/Size: Replacement of a Single Span Historic Bridge
Services: Structural Engineering
This project for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation involved replacement of a single span bridge carrying Delaware Road over the Delaware Canal in Bucks County, PA. The canal is a National Historic Landmark and the bridge is located within the Riegelsville Historic District. PCS prepared an Alternatives Analysis Study and successfully navigated through the public involvement and Section 106 processes. We obtained PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and PA Historic and Museum Commission (PHMC) concurrence, gained project acceptance from the various stakeholders, and prepared a Parkland Section 4(f) Evaluation for PennDOT and FHWA approvals. The recommended alternative called for a temporary bridge over the canal to maintain traffic during construction. PCS also coordinated the temporary bridge design and alignment with the adjoining DRJTBC river crossing. PCS provided the highway, structure, traffic control and erosion and sedimentation control designs, and the DEP permits, survey and delineation of existing legal right-of-way and property lines for right-of-way acquisition.
